The Danish INVENT team will present the first country-specific results of the project’s data-scraping efforts at the 2021 NordMedia online conference in August of this year. The presentation on “#kultur – Mapping conversations about culture in the Danish Twittersphere” will focus on how Danish citizens use Twitter in relation to arts and culture. It also provides a methodological report highlighting the challenges associated with collecting tweets that are unrelated to specific cultural events, movements, or institutions and celebrities, and the meaningful inferences we can draw from the associated data. The team discusses the implications of the findings for cultural communication studies into Twitter, and for the way in which knowledge about citizens’ conversations about arts and culture in the digital cultural sphere may be useful for developing future European cultural and media policies.
